To change the Name (SSID) of your WiFi network or Password from their default, open a web browser on any device that is connected to the modem. It is best to use a wired instead of WiFi connection.
1. Gather the appropriate information:
· Look at the black label located on the side of the modem and note the Device Access Code. You will be required to enter this after logging in.
· Note the Wireless Network Key (on some modems, this is called the Wi-Fi Password).
2. Open a web browser on your computer and type following into your address bar: 192.168.1.254
3. Hit Enter or Return on your keyboard. You should see the modem’s configuration interface appear.
4. If prompted, enter the
Device Access Code
on the label
5. Once logged in, click on the
Settings
tab >
LAN
>
Wireless
or
Wifi
6. You can change the Network Name displayed by entering anything the
Network Name (SSID)
field. This information is broadcast openly to anyone nearby so make sure you don’t use anything that is personally identifiable such as your name or address.
7. You’re WiFi Network Key (otherwise known as the WiFi password) can be changed by scrolling down to the
Security
section. Check the
Use Custom Wireless Network Key
checkbox then enter the new password in the field provided.
8. Click on the
Save
button to store your changes. Note that if you change your WiFi password, you will need to re-enter your password on any device that has been connected via WiFi.
