Setting up POP Email in Outlook 2013

To set up Outlook 2013 for POP email:
Open Outlook and click on the ‘File’ menu:

Click on ‘Add Account’

On the ‘Add Account Setup’ page, enter your name, full dslextreme email address and password.

Click Next

Outlook will fetch the settings and set up the account for IMAP. Once it does this, check the ‘Change account settings’ checkbox then click ‘Next’

On the ‘POP and IMAP Account Settings’ pane:

  1. Change the ‘Account Type’ to ‘POP3’
  2. Click on the ‘More Settings…’ button

The ‘Internet E-mail Settings’ pane will open.

Go to the ‘Outgoing Server’ tab

Check the ‘My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication’ checkbox

Click on the ‘Advanced’ tab

In the ‘Server Port Numbers’ section:

Check the checkbox next to ‘This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)’

In the ‘Outgoing server (SMTP)’ field, enter ‘465’

In the ‘Use the following type of encrypted connection’ dropdown, select ‘SSL’

In the ‘Server Timeouts’ section:

Move the slider all the way to the right.

Regarding the ‘Delivery’ section. By default, email messages are kept on our server for 14 days, after which they are deleted. We recommend that you uncheck the ‘Remove from server after’ checkbox. This will tell our server to keep a backup of your email messages.

By leaving the email messages on our server, you will have a backup of those emails with us. If for any reason you lose your local copy of your emails, you will be able to restore them from our backup. If for some reason you don’t want us to keep a copy of your emails, check the appropriate options in the delivery section. Remember, if you delete messages off of our server, we will not be able to restore those messages should you need them. Make sure you take appropriate action to backup your data.

Click ‘OK’ to exit

Click ‘Finish’ to test the connection and exit setup.
