Mac OS X Dynamic IP setup
Mac OS X Dynamic IP setup A dynamic IP connection is a connection that assigns you an IP address after you have authenticated with a user name and password. Every time you authenticate you are given a different IP address. While the only difference most users will see between static IP and dynamic IP accounts is the need for dynamic customers to log in, their configuration methods are very different. 1. Click on system preferences in the control panel. Then click on network.
2. Once the Network configuration screen has come up click on location and select the "New Location" option. 3. You will now be prompted to name this location, name the location anything you choose and click ok. 4. Now click on the show pull down and select built in Ethernet from the drop down menu. Then Select the PPP option from the menu. 5. On the PPPoE setup tab make sure that "connect using PPPoE" box is checked. In the account name field type in the user name you selected when creating the account, make sure you type @dslextreme.com after the user name. In the Password field input the password you selected when you signed up for your DSL account. Then click on the button that reads "PPPoE Options". 6. In the PPPoE options window check the first box that reads "Connect automatically when needed". Make sure that "Send PPP echo packets" is also checked. After you have checked the boxes previously listed click on ok.
7. Next click on the tab that reads TCP/IP. Click on the "configure:" pull down, from the list select PPPoE. In the lower section of the window there is a field where you can enter in DNS server addresses. Enter both 66.51.205.100 and 66.51.206.100 into the DNS Server field. Then click apply now.
Congratulations you have successfully configured Mac OS for a PPPoE connection. To connect simply open your web browser of choice and it will connect automatically for you.
